I was asked to run a one day workshop once that had the title, “Dealing with Difficult People” and within the first 5 minutes, I was put right by a delegate who told me in no uncertain terms that there is no such thing as difficult people, just people who are different to you. I have relayed this story to many people over the years and it’s a good personal reminder that the perception of what is ‘difficult’ is mine and subsequently how we view ‘difficult’ is but a mindset.

Decision making is a game for one or more players, and like most games, the rules are slightly different if more than one person is involved. When you’re going solo, the decision making process might be quicker, because there is no one else to bring on board, or cast doubt on your thought process, yet when done right, the collective approach to decision making can produce a richer outcome through the use of the group brain.

Like any relationship, be it business or personal, effective dialogue lies at the heart of success, and importantly, where that dialogue involves different opinions and perspectives. Let’s face it, team meetings would be pretty pointless affairs, if everyone agreed all of the time, or if only one voice was heard.
