Hearst’s learning and development manager attended a leadership development workshop facilitated by Anita Pemberton and as a result, ACP was invited to design and deliver three modules for Hearst's new management development programme.

The Challenge

Hearst recognised that it had a number of strong line managers who required some specific development to fully equip them to fulfill their current roles, and to become potential leaders of the future. The delegates were a group of capable individuals, already operating at a senior level within the various magazine brands and it was important that they received the appropriate level of support and challenge to help them to develop within the business.

The Solution

This programme required real collaboration between Hearst’s HR team and ACP, as some of the programme modules were delivered by internal team members. It was therefore important to ensure that the delegates also received a progressive and positive experience that built on their learning across the various modules. Anita Pemberton met several times with the programme sponsors to scope out the programme and its various modules and ensure that the content for the modules were the right fit for the business needs and the participants themselves. ACP designed compact workbooks for each of the modules which delegates were able to take away to help them review their learning.

The Result

“I found the sessions were relaxed and the facilitation non patronising, yet sufficiently challenging. Anita brought her previous personal experience as a publisher, which enhanced her credibility with the group. She also demonstrated an understanding of work pressures, and constraints.

The overall delivery style, the pace and the content were all completely relevant to the group of people being trained - it was evident from the level of engagement that everyone enjoyed it and got value from it. As a result of the programme, we now have access to a close network of work colleagues we didn’t have before. We also have a greater empathy for other areas of the business, which will help us collaborate more effectively in the future.”
Sophie Wilkinson, HR Business Partner.

“We were given many practical models which we were able to use to think through real life situations which was really helpful.”
Suzy Cox, Deputy Editor, Cosmopolitan

"I really valued receiving my Personal Profile and learning how to adapt areas of my management style to different team members.”
Kathryn Flood, Ad Director, Contemporary Women’s Group.

"I have a new perspective on different aspects of leadership. I enjoyed the discussions and exchanges between peers at Hearst I’d never met. I have a renewed energy and enthusiasm!”
